Occupying Powers

Directed by: Yukihiro Kato
Country: Japan
Genre: Horror

Anita, a disgraced psychic, joins a pair of famous YouTubers on a shoot in the museum of legendary Japanese supernatural researcher, Professor Fukurai. When they re-enact one of his experiments, Anita summons the ghost of a young foreign girl called Anji, who the American occupying forces were using as a psychic spy to steal Soviet Secrets.

Director’s vision

I am interested in the way that horror movies are able to recreate the sense of supernatural fear that was common before the 20th century. By using the idea of a supernatural experiment from the war years, I want to create a film that summons a deep sense of supernatural dread.
